Rattan, also known as “vine stalk”, is a vine with a tough texture and a very long body. Huzhizi is a mesophytic deciduous shrub, resistant to shade, cold, drought and barrenness. The root system is developed, the adaptability is strong, and the soil requirements are not strict. Its habitat is usually in warm temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest areas and subtropical mountainous and hilly areas, and is the dominant species in this area. It is also distributed in forest margins, deforestation or areas where forests cannot be restored after repeated logging and burning after forest destruction.
Huzhizi has lush branches and leaves, good palatability, and all kinds of livestock like it. It is also an excellent feed for rabbits, chickens and pigs when it is prepared into grass powder. Hu Zhizi is rich in nutrients, the crude protein content is 13.4-17%, the crude fiber is only 25.1-24.4%, and calcium and phosphorus are rich. In the dry matter of ruminants, the digestibility of organic matter is 53.3-57.62%, which is slightly lower than that of alfalfa (62%) and higher than that of other shrubs, and is one of the forages with higher digestibility.
